Speak Life - Week Three

Josh said that “I love pizza” and “I love my wife” use the same English word for very different things. When have you known someone loved you because of how they loved you, even if they rarely said the words?

Read Psalm 136:1 and Hebrews 13:5. Josh described hesed as steadfast love that stays. Who has shown up for you when life was hard? Is there someone who needs your presence right now?
(Hesed is Hebrew, rather than Greek.)

Read John 21:15–17. Josh pointed to the exchange between agape and phileo in Jesus’ conversation with Peter. What do you notice about Jesus’ questions, Peter’s answers, and Jesus’ repeated invitation to care for his sheep?

Josh described phileoas the affection of friendship: “I enjoy being with you.” Why might someone need to hear “I like you” even if they already know you love them? Who might need to hear that from you?

Read Romans 12:10. Josh connected storge with family affection and belonging. What makes you feel like you have a place at the table? How could your group communicate that kind of welcome to someone else?

Read 1 John 4:10–11. Jesus showed agape through sacrifice for our good. Who are you “for” right now, and what might it cost you to help them flourish this week?
