Take the Next Step: Declare Your Faith Through Baptism

Public Declaration of an Inward Decision

Baptism is a believer’s way of saying, “I’ve decided to follow Jesus.” It’s a visible, tangible step that shows others you’ve accepted God’s gift of salvation and are committing your life to Him.

Symbol of New Life

Lakeland teaches that baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.  Going under the water represents dying to your old life and being buried with Christ.  Coming out of the water represents being raised to new life in Him (Romans 6:4).  It’s a vivid picture of the gospel message—transformation, grace, and renewal.

Step of Obedience

Jesus Himself was baptized and commanded His followers to baptize others (Matthew 28:19–20). Lakeland views baptism as an act of obedience—a response to what God has already done in someone’s heart through faith.

Celebration of Community

Baptism is also a family celebration. It’s not a private moment; it’s done in community because the church family plays a vital role in encouraging, supporting, and walking with the believer in their faith journey.

Practical Approach at Lakeland

Lakeland practices believer’s baptism by immersion (meaning after someone has made a personal decision to follow Jesus). Baptisms are celebrated during weekend services and special events, often with testimonies and worship, making it a shared celebration of life change.
