One, Two, We – Week Two

1. Let’s read together Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. Pastor Josh used these verses to show why “two is better than one.” What specific benefits of relationship does this passage highlight? How have you experienced these benefits in your own relationships?

2. Turn in your Bibles to Proverbs 20:5: “The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but one who has understanding draws them out.” In the sermon he compared this to a “string telephone of understanding.” What does it mean to “draw out” understanding in relationships? How can we do this practically?

3. Would someone read Proverbs 15:1 for us? “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” On Sunday there was an emphasis on going slow and lowering our tone. Share a time when you’ve seen this principle at work in your relationships – either positively or negatively.

4. Let’s look at 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 together. Pastor Josh talked about “cutting the anchors of bitterness and unforgiveness.” What does keeping a “record of wrongs” look like in relationships? How does this “anchor” us in negative patterns?

5. Open your Bibles to Matthew 18:21-22. Jesus tells Peter to forgive “seventy-seven times.” How does our Pastor’s explanation of losing count of forgiveness change your perspective on what forgiveness should look like in relationships?

6. As we wrap up, let’s read Acts 15:28: “It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us.” This text illustrates our shared mission with God in relationships. What does it look like for relationships to be guided by both the Holy Spirit and mutual agreement? How can we pursue this kind of unity in our relationships?
