Spring Cleaning - Week 5
---
In this week’s message, Pastor Jayson explored the rec room of our hearts—the place we go to have fun, unwind, and make memories. While recreation is a gift from God, it can easily become a trap when our hobbies distract us from what matters most or deceive us into living double lives. We were challenged to ask two big questions: Does my fun distract me from God's priorities? and Does my fun align with God's values? Drawing from Colossians 3:17, James 4, and Philippians 4:8, we were reminded that our entertainment choices reflect our faith. God isn't asking us to live without fun—but He is asking us to live with integrity, making room for joy that is pure, lovely, and praiseworthy. The rec room, like every room in our hearts, should be a place where Jesus is welcome.
Q1 – Let’s start by reading Colossians 3:17.
“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus...”
How does this verse reshape the way we think about hobbies, free time, or entertainment? What would it look like to truly represent Jesus in your moments of fun?
Q2 – Read 1 Peter 5:8.
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil…”
Pastor Jayson said the enemy doesn’t need to destroy us if he can just distract us. What forms of distraction are most tempting for you right now? How can we guard our attention more intentionally?
Q3 – Let’s examine James 4:4-5.
“Friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God...”
This is strong language. What does “friendship with the world” look like in today’s context—especially in our hobbies? How do we find the line between enjoying culture and being shaped by it?
Q4 – Read Philippians 4:8 aloud.
“Whatever is true… noble… right… pure… admirable… think about such things.”
Which of these words stands out to you the most? How can this verse become a filter for what we watch, read, or give our time to?
Q5 – Take a moment to reflect on Psalm 139:23-24.
“Search me, O God… point out anything in me that offends you…”
Invite the group to silently ask God: Is there anything in my hobbies or entertainment that I’ve justified, but You want me to surrender? After a minute of silence, allow space for anyone to share what came to mind.
Q6 – Pastor Jayson said, “Consistency is credibility.”
Is there any area where your public and private lives don’t match? What might it look like to do an “integrity audit” of your fun this week?
