School of Hard Knocks - Week Three
School of Hard Knocks- Week 3
Q1 (Warning Signs on the Dashboard) Read Prov 14:12: We all desire to make the best decisions, but sometimes we do not. What are some warning signs in your life that indicate you may not be in the best position to make a wise decision?
Q2 (Warning Light of Isolation) Read Prov 12:15: Pastor Josh says the first reason to pause decision making is making it in isolation. Do you listen to advice before making big decisions?
Q3 (Warning Light of Lust) Read James 1:14-15: David’s desire for Bathsheba shows how lust can lead to poor decisions—not just for people, but also for status, stuff, or success. Have you ever made a decision driven more by desire than wisdom? Are you facing any now?
Q4 (Warning Light of Exhaustion) Read 1 Kings 19:1-3: Pastor Josh says we should pause our decision making if we’re making it in exhaustion or frustration, like his decision to stop going live with his family on Facebook during COVID. Have you ever made bad decisions when tired or upset?
Q5 (Warning of Comparision) Another big reason to pause any decisions we’re making is if we’re making it out of comparison or competition. Read 2 Corinthians 10:12. It’s easy to slip into comparison or competition with others, but Paul warns that this mindset leads to foolishness. Has comparison ever pushed you into a decision you later regretted? Are you currently feeling pressure to “measure up” in any area of life?
Q6 (Warning of Abandoning Former Convictions) Read Gal 5:7-8: The final reason to pause decision making is if we’re making it in contraction to a former conviction. For example, you had relational boundaries, spending and money boundaries, or moral boundaries. In your life, has the enemy used anything in his power to rationalize away your convictions?
