Spring Cleaning - Week 4

April 27, 2025

---

In this week’s message, Pastor Josh walked us into the *bedroom* of our hearts—a deeply private space where we often withdraw, hide, or try to handle life on our own. Using Psalm 139 and David’s story in 2 Samuel 11, he challenged us to stop treating isolation as a safe hiding place and instead invite Jesus into even the most personal parts of our lives. While we may be tempted to think that what happens “under the covers” stays hidden, God sees, knows, and wants to *meet* us in those spaces. Rather than shame, Jesus offers comfort, guidance, strength, and presence. The bedroom isn’t meant to be where we go to get away with something—it’s where we’re restored by the One who knows us best.

**Q1 – Let’s begin with Psalm 139:1-5.**
“You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.” Pastor Josh said God’s hand represents comfort. When you feel alone or overwhelmed, where do you usually turn for comfort? What would it look like to let God be your comfort instead?

**Q2 – Read 2 Samuel 11:1-4.**
David fell into sin while isolated. Have you ever made a poor decision during a season of isolation? What made that time especially vulnerable? How can we guard ourselves when we're in a place of emotional or spiritual solitude?

**Q3 – Take a look at Psalm 139:10.**
“Even there your hand will guide me.” What does it mean for God to *guide* us in the private spaces of our lives—when no one else sees? Have you ever had a moment where God clearly guided you when you were struggling alone?

**Q4 – Read Psalm 139:7-8.**
“Where can I go from your Spirit?” Pastor Josh reminded us that God isn’t watching from a distance—He’s present even when we try to hide. How does this change the way you view your “private life”? What parts of your heart have you tried to keep off-limits?

**Q5 – Now let’s turn to Luke 5:16.**
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Isolation itself isn’t always wrong—Jesus modeled solitude for prayer and renewal. What’s the difference between spiritual solitude and spiritual isolation? How can you make your “alone time” a place where Jesus meets you?

**Q6 – As we close, reflect on Psalm 139:23-24.**
“Search me, God, and know my heart… see if there is any offensive way in me.” What area of your private life is Jesus inviting you to open up to Him this week? What would it look like to truly invite Him into the “bedroom” of your heart?
