Spring Cleaning - Week 6

April 27, 2025

Pastor Tim Harlow discusses the significance of work, emphasizing that it is deeply integrated with our relationship with God. He encourages the congregation to view work as a spiritual practice, not merely a means to survive but as an opportunity to partner with God in creating value and making a difference. Pastor Tim highlights that the way we perceive our work can transform our ambitions, relationships with bosses, and attitudes toward coworkers. Ultimately, he calls for believers to see their daily work as a form of worship, pushing them to love and serve those around them as a reflection of their faith.

Q1 – Let’s begin by reading Genesis 2:15.
“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”
How does this verse shape your understanding of work? Does it challenge any assumptions you’ve had about your job or daily responsibilities?

Q2 – Read Colossians 3:23-24 together.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord...”
Tim talked about Jesus becoming our new boss. What changes when we see ourselves working for Jesus instead of just a company, client, or paycheck?

Q3 – Let’s reflect on Luke 10:20.
“Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Have you ever tied your identity too closely to your job performance or accomplishments? What would it look like to find your worth in Christ instead?

Q4 – Read 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12.
“Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life…so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders.”
Tim said this is what it looks like for God to redeem our work. How might your current job—no matter how ordinary—win the respect of those around you?

Q5 – Tim gave a definition of work: “The expenditure of energy for the creation of value.”
What is one way your current work—paid or unpaid—creates value for others? How might God be inviting you to see that work through a kingdom lens?

Q6 – In the message, Tim shared a vivid image of Jesus in our workshop, saying, “You have gifts. Will you use them for me?”
What are some of the gifts or skills God has given you? How are you currently using them for His purposes—and where might He be nudging you to do more?
