“At Just the Right Time: The Love of God”
Small Groups at Lakeland exist to make disciples who make disciples in relational environments as we live out the four habits – accountability, shepherding, developing others, and on mission.
ICEBREAKER (optional): Would you rather have a dragon or be a dragon?
DISCUSSION STARTER (optional): Let’s start by asking if anyone has a specific takeaway from this weekend’s message that they’d like to share.
- SHEPHERDING: This weekend we talked about God’s love being greater than our love. Tell us about a time when you were overwhelmed by God’s love for you? (For groups with established relationship ask this instead: ‘Tell the group about a time when you felt unloved by God.’)
- Our human relationships are so conditional. Do you think we can ever fully grasp the unconditional love of God? (Push people on their answers. Good opportunity for some faith-stretching debate!)
- ACCOUNTABILITY: Let’s read 1 John 4:7-21 together. [Leader’s Tip: Soak in this passage by reading it two or three times. Before the second time, ask your group to identify a word or phrase that God wants them to hear. Pause to let them sit with the word/phrase, then read a third time. Discuss your words and phrases as a group.]
- DEVELOPING OTHERS: As disciples of Jesus, how do we obey the passage that we just read? [Risky question: As a small group, is there any command in this passage that we aren’t fully living out?]
