Recap: This week we continued learning how to live CALM and confident in Christ even in anxious times. We discovered how THANKSGIVING plays a key part in overcoming anxiety. Specifically we took a look at the 3rd letter in our acrostic CALM and practiced Listing what we are thankful for. Some areas where we can always find something to be grateful for are in God’s Provision, Grace, and Character.
Icebreaker: Describe your best fast food meal with different parts coming from different restaurants.
Discussion Starter: What has come out of a recent disappointment that you are actually thankful for now?
Do you remember the worst meal you ever ate? What about the best meal? Do you remember the worst thing anyone said to you? What about the best thing? Which is easier to recall?
Do more people tell you what’s wrong with their day or what’s been going right in their day? Why do you think we tend to focus on what’s going wrong?
What do you think the reaction would be if you listed out your blessings when someone asked how you were doing?
Read aloud Philippians 1:3-5 & Colossians 3:14-17. How is thankfulness tied to true joy? If we are to be known by our fruits, such as joy, then is our witness for Christ at stake in our ability to be thankful? How so?
Read aloud 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Why would God’s will involve us being thankful? Why does He care about it so much?
Instead of knowing about God’s character traits, what are some that you have come to truly believe? What happened to make you believe this about God?
Out of the traits you just talked about, and others in the Bible, what characteristic of God are you going to put on as a lens to view the week ahead? How are you going to walk out having that lens on?
